Blog #4 IS DUE ON 10/11/07 BY 11:59pm!!!!
Please answer the following prompt in no fewer than 350 words.
Now that you have completed week 4 of your internship experience, explain in full detail the possibilities for your final project. From last week's prompt, you may have mentioned ideas about your internship, but please explain the ideas you have for your final project. Also, please explain what the benchmark steps would be to complete the final project. Lastly, explain how this final project will benefit your WLE site.

The possibilities for my internship are probably limited to something that is interactive and engaging for kids that teaches them about the animals at the ARC. I have not given my final project any thought although I know I should have. I feel there is so much work going on at school and that I tend to focus more on them instead of my WLE. But I believe that what I do for my project has to be contributive to the ARC and viewable to the general public. So my benchmarks for my WLE project will consist of me first thinking about a project I can do. Then I will have to talk to the staff if I can do this project, should they say no then I will have to go back to square one. Yet, if they say I can then I will have to gather the necessary materials and knowledge to commence the project. Depending on the project and the scale of it I may or may not have time to work on it and take it home, and with my schedule I guess I need a small portable project that I can pretty much pick-up and leave off any time I want. So I hope that this project can be used to enrich the minds of all those who see it, or to benefit the ARC animals or staff. Well, that’s all I can really say about this blog. If any of you guys have any suggestions about what I can do for my project I would be more than happy to hear it out.

A few of my ideas for my final project are to take the kids on a small educational field trip. My benchmarks would be to decide on a place to take the kids with Debra, set a date, make parent permission slips, and finally take the kids on a field trip with either a camera or video camera to record the day. It would only benefit the kids but that's ok because the school will most likely be closing after this year anyways. My second idea would be to plan a retirement/goodbye dinner/event for Debra. She's been working in the field of education for the past 35 years so it would be nice if something great was done for her. My benchmarks would be to talk to the other teachers and her daughter about the idea and get their feedback, send an e-mail to the parents to let them know of my project and see how much they could put down for my project, create a budget sheet, find and book a location (most likely a restaurant) and set a date, let everyone know about it, find out more about Debra's career through her family, create some sort of art component (a piece on Debra's career through the years) most likely done on the computer, and finally have the 'party'. My third idea is in case the school can be sold and continue being a school than my project would be to renovate the school in any way or form. My benchmarks would be to talk to Debra about my plan and see what I could do, create a budget sheet, and start renovating. This would be really beneficial to the school and the future students if it stays open.
My final project will be a series of newsletters that will be distributed to the community of the Boys and Girls Club in the heart of the mission. I am currently working on creating the templates for the fliers, using Adobe InDesign. Although I don't have much content to the put in the letter, I am setting up an interview with the director of the Mission charter so that I can compile a bunch of photos and facts that will be presented in my news letter. I am working to present and organize the information that is understandable to the general public of the Mission district, but still contains all of the concepts and details that will ensure that the Mission community doesn't feel like they are losing a crucial landmark. My mentors are afraid that the community will not accept their designs
because it is a change in tradition. To complete my project, I am working with the Marketing Rep at Tom Eliot Fisch to learn how to best present the information that will please the audience and convey the right message. Then I will work with Susana Rojas from the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco to collect information that they have used in the pass when presenting a new development to their community. Next Wednesday I will meet with Susana, and I should have my first
newsletter done by the end of the day the following Wednesday. The other two or three newsletters will be based off a similar format as the first one, so it is crucial that I am 100% pleased with my first
template. I might also be facilitating or co-facilitating a community
meeting with the people of the Mission Club to present the drawings and final lay outs to the general public and prepare them for the grand opening, which will be in a few years.
While at my internship, I will also working on re-organizing my resume with their marketing rep so that it best presents my qualities and experience, to be able to apply for a job in architecture.

Well I have been giving my final project for my WLE some thought. I have been pondering what would be the best possible project that would show everything that I have done and worked for during my time at my internship. My partner at my internship and my mentor have come up with the idea of a house being our final project. What I mean by a house is building an entire house from its foundation up and presenting that as proof and our project to what I have done at WLE. The completed house would show everything that I have worked for at my internship. It would show the geometry, architecture, and contracting skills that I had learned from working at my internship. The “house” project wouldn’t exactly be the easiest project in the world but it’s the only way I can think of that will demonstrate everything I have worked on and for at my internship. The bench marks to the project will probably be set every week. I know that the WLE ends in
December and since its now October that leaves us with about two months left to work on the project. Every week we will make sure a big benchmark of the house is complete. For example We have finished with the floors last week and this week we are almost done with the walls. Both those benchmarks are huge parts of any house and I think that that’s the only way I can possibly give benchmarks to the WLE project.
This project will finally help the WLE site because once we are done with the house and it has been completely built the project for our mentor will also be done. What I mean by this is that once the house is done for our WLE project the mentor will move on from that particular construction area and will move on to another place. The next step may either be a store, house, even a skyscraper! Pretty much I have enjoyed this internship a lot and am looking forward to presenting my project.

So for my final project so far I have had first an idea to show a style on a manakin head or even a friends head. From this I can tape what I did through the process and then the end result. I can show a cut, style and color change. Another idea we were talking about too was making a web site for his new salon after he sells this one. I could put pictures of diffrent styles he has done and the merchandise he sells at the shop too. This way he can get his face out more and maybe start to get more clients and hire more hair dressers.
The benchmark steps I really wanna take with this project is just learn as much as I can now. Then once it starts to get to starting the project I can show all the skills I have picked up and learned over the whole time. But I feel both these projects would benifit the salon because if I made the website for him that could easily get him new customers. While me doing a style on a friend or manakin may not help him but, thoes are the skills he taught me and it will hopefully get me a job in the future. I also hope to maybe go back and work with him once I get my hair dresser license.

My current internship final project thoughts are pretty skewed. I don’t feel like there is much I can do to bring an outside environment into a classroom in the form of a presentation. And its even more difficult to thin of something if I actually want to people to listen and be interested in what Parks and Recreation has to offer. I grow increasingly frustrated when I try and think of a possibility and just draw a blank. Jim, my mentor, has told me that within the next few weeks we will be planting a series of different species of trees in the park. I was thinking maybe I could plant a tree ‘for CAT’ in the park and have that contribute to my final project. I am not sure though, I would probably need to have an additional factor in my presentation that makes it look like I just kind of took the easy way out.
I want to bring plants in, but my resources are very limited. It’s not like I can start a school garden or anything. I have also thought that maybe I could get house plants for each of the upper division teachers to have in the classroom. Something…anything at this point is really an option for me. Because I am so up in the air about what I am actually going to do, its hard to focus on benchmarks. I feel that benchmark one would be to finalize my plan and idea for the final project. I think that introducing a plants in CAT or planting trees for CAT would be both be beneficial.
