My WLE this year is so much different than that of last years. My new WLE really asks more of me to do than that of last years. Last year all I had to do was go to the school and help out the little kids and it wasn't that hard to except that I had to learn how to control the kids so that they would be able to learn what they need to learn and let me tell you that wasn't an easy task. My new WLE is making me use everything that I know and put it together to help out the place. I also get to work with a lot more people here than at my old place because I get to work for anyone that might need me. Also other than me there 2 other interns here one in college and Calvin and that is good help because that means that I could always ask them for help when I need it or I can help them when they need it. I think that my role here is bigger because what ever I do affects the company it puts more pressure on me but it also it helps me learn a lot more stuff than if it wasn't that hard to do. I think that the environment isn't much ore different than that of last years they are both pretty welcoming and I get along great with the people that I have met so far. I think that no matter what I do I will get a lot more out of this WLE than last years because this one is like a full day and itr has the feeling of a full day job and what it's like to work in a company.

In my WLE last year I had to take care of kids and watch after them. It was also very high energy when you’re around the kids. At the DA’s office it is really hard work. Well not really that hard just work that will take a lot of time doing and also doing it the best it can be. If u mess up at the DA’s office its hard for the lawyers to find the file that you filed and it can cause a case to be months behind schedule. If you messed up at the Preschool it was easy to fix and it was as much as a big deal. I think the DA’s office is a very serious place to work, serious like in the work you do but not really so much as the atmosphere. It’s really important that I don’t mess up, also all of the people there keep telling me I can’t mess up and I just keep getting reminded constantly. At the DA’s office I am just a person who they can come up to if they need anything done for them. They really like having interns because of the things we do. It’s a lot like typical intern work but at the same time they teach us why all the things work the way they do. Also they teach us the process of getting ready for a case. I think for this internship I’ll get more office experience. In the preschool I got more of people interactions and not much of actual work. I think working in the DA’s office I can get a sense of what it’s like to work in the corporate world. I think with this internship and last years I will be more prepared to take on any job because of these two experiences.

My WLE this round compared to the last… there is no comparison. This one that I’ve got right now, is the one that I was fighting for last time around. And I finally got it. Unlike my last one, I actually want to go back next time, I actually wasn’t ready to leave today, I worked a 9-5, No problem and I liked it a lot. This WLE is AT LEAST 17 times better then my last. This time, I’ve got stuff to do the whole time, and I am actually LEARNING, helping, and doing something worthwhile, and its something that I really want to learn. Instead of being a 11th grade student teaching(opposite of learning) 3rd grade science, I am a 12th grader learning the mechanics of high end European cars. This place is also a lot nicer then my last place. They are both essentially warehouses, but one is full of nice European cars as opposed to screaming 3rd graders and dead animals. This round of WLE, I am going to ask questions, because ill have lots of them, and since this is important stuff, and things that I will not want to forget, I’m going to take notes. I will probably just be able to absorb information a lot better in this place then I would have been able too at the last one, cause there is only 3 of us in the warehouse so I am going to have a lot of 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 time with my mentor(s).

My WLE Placement is loads different than last year. Last year I was just an clerical intern at a non-profit organization working on the computer all day and not necessarily enjoying what I was doing. Now I am one out of the 3 people in charge of 12 toddlers n 4 year olds. I have to play inside and outside, make snack, read books, clean 'accidents', and be the one in charge rather than the one receiving the charges (im not sure if that little line made much sense but o well). The environment is completely different. It's a lot more fun but also a lot more physically demanding and deffinitley a lot more entertaining. In order to get more out of my WLE I will be very involved with the kids rather than just supervising them from afar.

My wle placement this year is very diffrent from the one last year. This one is more of somthing I enjoy doing and hope to pressue later in life.My role is diffrent in that I dont work with as many people now and I am more responsible to keep myself bussy, instead of having a planned day. Also its very diffrent in that I am only working with one set mentor unlike toolworks were I switched every few weeks.

My enviorment is very diffrent because now Im in a little shop all day instead of being out all over the city. There is always customers coming in and out so its fun to see how they all want their hair cut. This year I will do alot more listening and practicing so I can improve my skills. I hope to really have a fun and interesting time while Im at the shop. Also I hope to have a awsome project at the end of it which really shows all the hard work I put in everyday.

Blog #2 Internships

It was another rigorous week of work at my internship ends the true work starts hitting me. I realized for the first time in my life how hard it is to work a full day of work. I work at this construction company as both a translator and a civil engineer. Last week I did pretty much only easy jobs and translator jobs, but this week I had to actually work on planning to design and build a house. In the last couple weeks I have come to get to know what is expected about me and what I must do everyday to finish my duties and leave having completed everything. The highlights of the week are finding out that our final project will be to design and build a house from scratch. The downside of that is that not only does designing a house involve a lot of math which I’m not a big fan of but it also involves a lot physical labor. I’ve always been interested in knowing how someone could build a house on their own and this is a perfect way to find out exactly how people do it.
Another thing I’m very excited about is my ability to do two internships at the same time. What I mean by that is I’m working both as a civil engineer / contractor and also a translator. I’m interested in both careers for my future so this way I can order the jobs in an order that I actually may like or do better at. This also is another way to improve my languages. I can speak Spanish and French but there is always room to improve and to perfect both languages. My boss has been awesome too which is also a first for me. At all my other jobs I had I’ve had bosses that weren’t the best to say the least, but at this job my boss explains and walks me through anything I need help with or don’t understand. To sum it up I pretty much have been enjoying the last two weeks at my job.

The school at Wednesday was pretty boring. We didn’t really know what to do and nobody was very motivated because so many tries before to find an internships didn’t work. I asked then Mr. Smith if he has an answer from his contact but he didn’t get an answer yet and Mr. Koh also didn’t get an answer from his friend so I still have to wait. The school at Wednesday was very short. At 11 o’clock we were allowed to leave the school because then the teachers had to visit the other internships. This is all I think I can say about this frustrating and short school day.

This year, I am LOVING my WLE. While last years placement was a very fun and creative site, I feel like my current internship is offering me a greater experience. From the start at Tom Eliot Fisch I was given responsibilities with much higher expectations than at my previous internship. At my last internship I worked directly with one woman, the main and only designer, so the experience was a very informal one. But this year I work in a large office with 15-20 other people, surrounded by a complete hierarchy of power. In my first day, I was taken under the wing by one of my mentors and drove to Oakland with a partner of the firm. There we met with the site recruiter for Envision and the head of the construction department to make a final inspection of the Oakland Envision campus, and finalize the details for Phase One of renovation. Then we returned to the office in downtown San Francisco where I was introduced to my main project, the renovation of The Boys and Girls Club Mission Charter. Unlike my previous internship, I was guided towards a possible project early on in my session, other than last minute frantically gluing croquis to poster board. After lunch, I was instructed to sit in at a meeting with the heads of the performing arts departments and the Dean of City College of San Francisco, where they discussed the signage concerns for the new campus and funding issues. While the 4 hour meeting took place in a small room with poor air conditioning, I found the information interesting and surprisingly easy to follow despite my lack of background information. To make this years internship a greater success, I plan on working harder at understanding the business and design of architecture by asking for more challenging assignments and the confidence to ask for help when I don’t understand something so that I am achieving all that I can. I have high hopes for this internship, and expect all to go well.

First of all my WLE placement last year took place inside for the entirety of my time there. Physical and biological sciences connected me to the outdoors, but I spent most of my time explaining it but not actually outside. Now I am outside all the time and I don’t really look at the things that are around me with a scientific viewpoint at all. There is just so many basic things to focus on, that you don’t really have time to concern yourself with the science of it. On break its easier to think about that stuff though. My role in Golden Gate Park is different from that of my role in the Exploratorium because being in the park is even more hands on. The biggest difference between them though is the amount of human interaction you get in each job. That sort of plays into the ‘environment’ aspect as well. At the Exploratorium I was in constant human contact al the time and it kind of freaked me out. In the park it is just me and my mentor, and if not that it is independent work. I generally feel more relaxed when I don’t have to talk to anyone I don’t know. I feel that I will attain more plant or botanical knowledge more than anything, and gain info on city jobs.

My WLE placement this year is a quite different from my previous WLE. Although I am still working with animals, these animals are more tame and manageable and do not scream, yell, complain and do not annoy me much, they also listen to me most of the time, which makes me happy. Although this WLE is much more expensive than my previous one, the food is still good and I get free drinks at the cafĂ©, which is freakin’ sweet!!! The people are not anymore friendly than my previous job but I think I like these new people more than from my previous just because I have much more interaction with these people because I am not completely divided from other people from different classrooms but here I am able to meet people down corridors and say “hey” and be told jokes from my mentor and other co-workers. My role is not any more different from my previous job, end of the totem pole and I am still doing that kind of work, but this time I am more aware that everyone else is doing it too. To get more out of this internship I am just going to do all I can do to do a great job! I will try my best to get along with the people here and do my best and say at the end of the day “I did a good job today.”
